COSMOS by Gabor Palotai is a graphic space odyssey. On display is an abstract art of the solar system and beyond, where you become your own planet. At every page of the book you get another view of both inner and outer space: from far-off perspectives on dwarf planets, to close-ups on the dust storms on Mars. With a graphic wealth of detail, the rhythmic and intense patterns stand out in white, black and gold. These striking space-patterns are set in clear-cut circles. The circles, whatever they evoke – planets, halos, holes, galaxies, stars – also reinforce that every illustration is an image of its own. COSMOS brings together inner space with outer space. And as such it is the cosmos of the mind’s eye. Every image invites you to explore space – extended into your inner life. COSMOS is a book of contemplation, and as such it opens up to imagination.


GABOR PALOTAI


Gábor Palotai is a graphic designer and an artist. In three decades he has been working in the field of visual communication. Gábor Palotai was born in Budapest in 1956, where he received his Master of Arts in graphic design at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. In 1981 he moved to Stockholm, where he continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Beckmans College of Design. In 1987 he established his design studio, Gabor Palotai Design, in Stockholm. In his inclusive take on visual communication, Gábor Palotai merges genres and works in different media, making his artistic and design practice intertwined. Gábor Palotai’s interdisciplinary art and design is internationally acclaimed, and is characterized by a distinct and strong sense of concept and style, with bold and unexpected solutions, and of making images out of typographic elements. His original and recognizable pictoral language, where he merges design and art, is realized in different media, and has during the years given rise to an extraordinary body of work. Gábor Palotai frequently exhibits his design and art, at solo exhibitions and group shows.
